Legal advise after selling old car

hi Guys, Happy valentines day to all!

Im after some advice if anyone can help me. My partner recently sold her car. We had no issues with it what so ever and decided to sell it on as she wanted somthing a little bigger and quicker.

Saw a friend of a friend wanting a car on good old facebook and offered them ours.

They test drove, looked over the car and decided they wanted it. we agreed on a price and sold the car to them at a sum of £1000.

Reciept sold as seen with no warranty implied. (12 year old car)

2 weeks later we get a phone call. "the battery has died on us" did you know anything about this. This was the cold snap we had a few weeks ago.

Our responce was no as it had always started and never had any issues with it.

Next message.

Engine management light has come on. Im not happy with what youve sold us etc etc. (not sure if theyve done somthing when changing battery) never had the light come on in ownership of car.

Then a month after gets another phone call demanding a full refund as timing chain has snapped.

So weve now recieved a letter stating they are now going to take us to small claims court for a refund or a contribution to repair (£1300 repair bill) of £1000 back for the car.

Said it has been miss sold as we knew about the issues.
Im not a trader not out there to rip people off.

But i would like to know where you guys think i stand. Should i pay out even though i didnt know these issues would happen?
Or take it to court and fight my corner? Although i will have a day of lost earnings.
Cant really afford to give a refund as i have no spare money.

Any advice would be fantastic.

thanks guys.
