Brakes Front wheel spindles

Hi

Are all later drum spindles the same size. I am looking at putting a '65 drum onto 1302 spindles having replaced the backing plate with a beetle one drilled to suit the 1302 spindle. I guess I would need later bearing set but it is the spindle length I am concerned about. Any help would be appreciated.
