located in southern Finland close to Helsinki airport and good car ferry connections to Sweden and Estonia,
VW Beetle 1200 Export 1965. Bought as new by my grandfather, full history in family. My grandfather was a craftsman with a religious routine on keeping the underseal in good condition. The car is originally from further up north where the winters are colder and less road salt is used. I have had the car since 1994.
The beetle is unrestored and very much original. Mostly original chrome and interior. Many repairs done during my ownership. I have aimed to preserve originality and German quality parts and replace with good quality parts only when essential.
Body: Exterior painted over in the 80s with original colour (Panama Beige L572). Some paint is bubbling and there are some rust spots. Some repaired areas are painted with rattle can paint. The heater channels have been replaced during late 90s. Rear bumper brackets have been replaced in 2014 (Hooky's panel shop quality parts).
Chassis is untouched by repair welding except for a small patch on the battery tray area.
Engine: original serial D block 1200, fully overhauled in 1995: crank milled undersize, block line bored, new pistons and cylinders, heads fitted with new valves, guides, seats, new cam, distributor drive gear etc. All engine tin was sandblasted and painted.
Mechanically the car is in good condition. Some of the more recent repairs inclure: Link pins, bushes and adjuster bolts were changed (Febi), spindles cleaned and painted with epoxy primer. Brake lines are not corroded, hoses are in good condition. Long fuel line inside tunnel was changed (steel line). Fuel hoses are Gates quality. Shifter rod bushes were changed. Carburettor (28 Pict-1) is fully overhauled unit by Vintage Werks.
Electric system is 6 Volts with Bosch overhauled starter and generator. Original harnesses are unmolested and in good condition. The car starts well but has the typical 6 Volt system features.
The bug passed Finnish MOT May 2016 with no discrepancies and is fully roadworthy. Finnish annual taxes are paid and my motor insurance can cover transport within Finnish border to nearest port. During last 5 years I have driven 400 km round trip to warm winter storage without any problems. Exporting the car within EU is very straightforward and safe.
