Suspension Narrowing beams with adjusters already in

There is another thread about this, but a clear answer never came from it...

Anyone got any experience of narrowing a beam with the adjusters already in the middle, whats the best way to go about it?

I was thinking remove the mounting brackets and cut an inch (I want 2 inches off) out either side, then re weld the mounting brackets on.

If anyone else has done this or knows a better way then let me know!
