Rad fans

OK guys, as some of you might know, depending how much you read  My baja has the radiator out the back (as seen in my avatar) and I experienced some warm temperatures a while back, short journeys are not a problem, a long journey sat at 70+ the single speed fan was on constantly.

I found the radiator fins to be full of mud behind the fans so I've since cleared this out and idle temps have dropped slightly, I haven't had it on a long run yet so haven't been able to check driving temps.

I'm currently using the stock fans, in the stock location (so engine side of the fan) however I've reversed the polarity so that they blow air rather than suck. It still pushes air but not as efficiently as it would suck  or a dedicated fan that sucks.

I know the rear isn't the most ideal but since it is a baja there is virtually no space up front to fit it, not without making the rad much smaller, so I'm trying to make do with what I've got.

So my question is, at the back, what would be best? I think fans that suck, on the non engine side of the rad so it pulls air and creates a negative space around the engine so whilst driving the air will want to fill it? Is that right?

I will probably swap the radiator for a full aluminium one as it will be thicker and have more surface area and probably fit Spal fan(s) for better air flow, potentially lifting the radiator up so it sits above the engine in a similar shape to where the decklid would have been - if that makes sense.

Also can you get a lower temp thermostat for the EJ20 engines?

Thanks!
