Give your left leg a break with this Light Pedal, Extra Long Clutch Arm
A 72 or earlier transmission will probably have the short 73mm arm, (#1). By switching to the 100mm long arm (#2) you will reduce your clutch pedal effort by almost 40% making the clutch nice and light and your Beetle or Bus much nicer to drive.
If you have a high performance stiff clutch, it is probably not fun to drive in traffic. The longer arm will fix that problem.
Benefits:
- Less pedal effort
- Less tension on the cable for longer cable life
- Eliminates wear of the hook at the front on the pedal assembly
- Eliminates breaking the welds holding the clutch tube in the tunnel
- Prevents breaking the diaphragm spring of your clutch
- No need to change the hook at the front for other Mickey Mouse designs that are unproven
If you are not sure what year your transmission is, you should measure the shaft. The early shaft is 16mm, or 5/8". The late trans is 20mm or just over 3/4". Rhino cases use the early small diameter shaft. If you have a single side cover IRS trans, it is the large shaft. An easy way to measure is to crawl under your car with a 5pence piece in hand. If the shaft is smaller than a 5p piece it is the early 16mm shaft. Larger, it is the later 20mm shaft. These arms also work on Bus gearboxes. Measure the shaft for fitment. Buses use two different diameters.
