Engine Dropped the oil in type 3 and it smells of fuel

Hi guys, as title.

I just dropped the oil in a 1971 type 3 fasty with a 1600 injection engine and the oil smells like petrol, not over powering but a definate smell of petrol.

I know that's bad right but where should I start looking? I'm not familiar with these engines and the layout etc.
